QUANTUM COMPUTATION USING SPINTRONICS

Computers have come through a long way from a system with tons of weight, to a system that can be held in hand. But the basic idea of storing information in binary digits(i.e. bits) has not changed. Now the situation changes, a technology that is going to demolish this old idea is quantum computation which is the future of computation. Quantum computers offer several advantages over ordinary classical computers, which enhances speed in computation likely in integer factorization and in quantum database search, and also in storage of TB’s of information in very less space, etc….. In quantum computation the information is not stored in traditional bits instead they are stored in quantum bits called qubits. These qubits may be in 0 state or 1 state or a quantal superposition of these states allowing for an infinite number of states. To construct a quantum computer capable of solving any computational problem, it is sufficient to have a single line of qubits provided the following are possible: the qubits can be put into some well-defined known state at the start of the computation; the pseudospin of any qubit can be rotated about two chosen "axes"; the coupling between the qubits can be controlled; and the state of the qubits at the end of the computation can be read out. From the above points we have an idea that spin of electrons can be used to store data .i. e an electron has two possible spins, one is clockwise and another is anticlockwise(+1/2 and -1/2). In classical computers the bits are recognized by the presence or absence of current or the magnetization or demagnetization for 0s and 1s.But in quantum computers the spin of electrons is made to held data with the help of device called coupled quantum dots where the electrons are held in three spatial dimension. In this paper we are going to discuss about the possibilities of quantum computation using spin of electrons.
